1- Haritaki (Harad): Haritaki is a principal herb in Ayurveda, also known as Himavati, a form of Goddess Shailputri. There are seven types of Haritaki: Haritaki (removes fear), Pathya (beneficial for health), Kayastha (maintains the body), Amrita (like nectar), Hemavati (grows in the Himalayas), Chetaki (brings happiness to the mind), and Shreyasi (considered auspicious).
2- Brahmi: Brahmi symbolizes Goddess Brahmacharini. Its use enhances memory and longevity. It also sweetens the voice, hence it is called Saraswati.
3- Chandrasur: Goddess Chandraghanta resides in the Chandrasur plant. Consuming its leaves helps in increasing physical strength. People suffering from heart diseases should worship Goddess Chandraghanta and use this medicinal plant.
4- Petha (Ash Gourd): The term “Kushmanda” refers to ash gourd, from which the sweet “petha” is made. Goddess Kushmanda resides in it. It is considered nectar for those with mental weakness. On the fourth day of Navratri, worship Goddess Kushmanda and use this plant.
5- Alsi (Flaxseed): Goddess Skandamata resides in the flaxseed plant. It helps cure diseases like Vata (wind), Pitta (bile), and Kapha (phlegm). Those suffering from these ailments should worship Skandamata on the fifth day of Navratri.
6- Moiya: Known by various names like Ambalika, Ambika, and Moiya in Ayurveda, this plant represents Goddess Katyayani. Moiya is used to treat cough, bile disorders, and throat ailments.
7- Nagdon (Nagadoun): The Nagadoun plant represents Goddess Kalaratri. Planting it at home eliminates negative energy. This herb is considered a remedy for mental stress.
8- Tulsi (Holy Basil): Goddess Mahagauri resides in the Tulsi plant. Planting Tulsi at home during Navratri brings prosperity, and one receives special blessings from Mahagauri. Tulsi is also known to cure various diseases.
9- Shatavari: Goddess Siddhidatri is associated with Shatavari. Using this herb enhances intelligence and strength. According to the Markandeya Purana, these nine herbs are collectively referred to as the Durga Kavach (Durga’s protective shield), given by Lord Brahma.
